Privacy Policy
Effective date: 14 September 2026
1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how Beer Counter handles personal data in its Android and iOS apps and in the web app at beercounter.app (together the “Service”). The Service is developed and operated by Jan Jaroš, Hlučín, Czech Republic, who is the controller of your personal data.
For any privacy question or request, contact us at support.hanypes@gmail.com.
2. Data we collect
- Account: email address, username, nickname and sign-in method (email and password, Google or Apple). Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see them.
- Profile and settings: details you choose to enter, such as body weight and gender (used only for the blood-alcohol estimate), currency, language and app preferences.
- Activity: drinks you log (type, brand, price, time), pubs and places you add, parties, events, festivals, badges, quests and statistics.
- Location: precise location while you use the Service — when you log a drink, look for nearby pubs or open the map. We do not track your location in the background. You can deny location access and the Service keeps working.
- Social content: friends, party membership, chat messages, reactions, comments and photos you share as Beer Moments.
- Health and sport (optional): if you connect Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iOS), we read workouts and burned calories to calculate your “sport debt”. This happens only with your permission and can be switched off at any time.
- Purchases: whether you have an active Patron subscription, the store it was bought in and its renewal or end date. Payment card details are processed only by the store or payment provider — we never receive them.
- Device and technical data: push notification token, platform and app version, crash and error reports and, in the web app, basic usage analytics.
3. Why we use your data
- To provide the Service (performance of our contract with you): your account, logging drinks, statistics, parties, chat, subscriptions and syncing between devices.
- With your consent: location, health and sport data, push notifications and personalised advertising. You can withdraw consent at any time in the app or in your device or browser settings.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the Service secure, preventing abuse, fixing crashes and improving features.
- Legal obligations: accounting and tax records for payments.
4. Where your data is stored — Google Firebase
Your account and app data are stored in Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions and Firebase Hosting), provided by Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC. The database is located in the European Union. Google processes the data on our behalf under the Firebase data processing terms.
In the web app we use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand basic usage, such as which screens are opened. More information: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
5. Payments — RevenueCat and Paddle
- RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA) manages Patron subscriptions across Android, iOS and the web. It receives your user ID (a random identifier, not your name), purchase receipts and subscription status, so your Patron benefits work on every platform. https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
- Paddle (Paddle.com Market Limited, United Kingdom) is the merchant of record for purchases made in the web app. Paddle collects and processes your name, email address, billing address, payment details and tax information, handles invoices, VAT, refunds and fraud prevention, and acts as an independent controller of that data. https://www.paddle.com/legal/privacy
- Google Play and the Apple App Store process purchases made in the mobile apps under their own privacy policies.
- We store only whether your subscription is active and when the current period ends. When you cancel, Patron benefits remain until the end of the paid period and are then removed automatically.
6. Advertising — Google AdSense and AdMob
Users without a Patron subscription see ads. The web app uses Google AdSense and the Android app uses Google AdMob, both provided by Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar identifiers (such as your device’s advertising ID) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Service and to other websites and apps.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our Service and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Personalised ads are shown only where allowed. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland we ask for your consent through a Google-certified consent management platform; without consent, Google shows non-personalised ads, which still use cookies for frequency capping, reporting and fraud prevention.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings at https://adssettings.google.com or at https://www.aboutads.info, and reset or limit your advertising ID in your device settings.
- How Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
7. Other service providers
- Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) — crash and error reports (device model, operating system, app version, error details) so we can fix bugs.
- Expo (650 Industries, Inc.) — delivery of push notifications and app updates.
- Resend (Resend, Inc.) — sending service emails, such as the welcome email.
- Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple — only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Open data services — when you search for pubs, see walking distance, look up place names, check the weather or search the beer catalogue, the necessary coordinates or search terms are sent to OpenStreetMap (Nominatim, Overpass), OSRM, Open-Meteo and Open Food Facts. No account data is sent to them.
8. What other users can see
- Your friends and members of your parties see your nickname, username, logged drinks, statistics, badges and Beer Moments you share with them.
- Your nickname and totals can appear in leaderboards. You can hide your identity there with Anonymity in leaderboards in your profile settings.
- A public web profile (beercounter.app/u/…) exists only if you turn it on.
- We never sell your personal data.
9. Cookies and local storage (web)
- Necessary: keeping you signed in, remembering your language and preferences, and an offline copy of the app (service worker). These do not require consent.
- Analytics: Google Analytics for Firebase.
- Advertising: Google AdSense cookies, as described in section 6.
- You can delete cookies and site data in your browser at any time. Blocking necessary storage may prevent you from signing in.
10. International transfers
Some providers (for example Google, RevenueCat, Sentry, Expo and Resend) may process data outside the European Economic Area, especially in the United States. Such transfers are protected by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
11. Retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your profile, logged activity, chat messages and photos from our databases. Technical logs are deleted automatically within 30 days.
Payment and invoice records are kept by Paddle, Google, Apple and RevenueCat for as long as tax and accounting laws require.
In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account.
Without the app: send a request from your registered email address to support.hanypes@gmail.com and we will delete your account within 30 days.
12. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to its processing, receive it in a portable format and withdraw your consent at any time.
To exercise your rights, contact support.hanypes@gmail.com. You can also lodge a complaint with the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection (https://uoou.gov.cz) or with the supervisory authority in your country.
13. Age limit
Beer Counter is intended only for adults of legal drinking age in their country, and at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
14. Security
Data is transferred over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access to it is restricted by Firebase security rules. No system is completely secure, but we work hard to protect your data and fix issues quickly.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the Service changes. The effective date at the top always shows the current version, and we will let you know in the app about significant changes.
